EDITOR SPEAKS OUT

I was recently confronted with the question: "Why don't you bigoted Christians get with it? This is the 90's. We are all divine. Your narrow minded religion is in the way of world peace and brotherhood."

This is not a "straw-man" argument. In fact, I was also told, "You are the very people we are going to line up and shoot someday". On this I will not comment. Though I did tell the person verbally, "Why don't you try it - right now!" - I'm still here.

Editor's Response:        Dear Angry, New Ager,

Look up "bigot" in your dictionary.

I am a W.A.S.P. (white, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant). Yet, 75% of all our free literature goes to Asian, Hispanic, Filipino, Indian, African, and African-American people. If you mean "narrow-minded" because of John 14:6, your argument is with the creator of all things - Jesus Christ. Colossians chapter 1.

A woman had three small boys sit in a circle. She took a straight pin and pricked each boy's finger and when red blood appeared on those little fingers, she said, "See, we are all God's flowers in His great garden." And I certainly agree -- until each boy reaches the age of accountability (Isaiah 7:16). There is something wrong in God's garden. It's called sin (rebellion against God). I speak from "both sides now" because I am a sinner, saved by grace.

Before I was saved, I wanted to "have a house by the side of the road and be a friend of man", but people stole from me - so I became disenchanted. I "imagined" no heaven above us, no hell below. I soon realized to look honestly at the world proved this temporal philosophy one of absolute despair. I understood why the suicide rate escalated. I tried to "teach the world to sing in perfect harmony". But unfortunately many sang off-key, some would not sing at all and some murdered their fellow choir members.

After I was saved and I "experienced" I Corinthians Chapter 2, versus 9-16, I knew the world would never come together in love until Jesus Christ comes, Himself.

I do want to warn you, however, against the inherent evil in "playing god" in any form, and against the practice of persecuting Christians.

There was a king who played god and persecuted Christians and an angel of the Lord struck him dead. You can find the story in "Antiquities of the Jews" (b. xix. ch. v & viii.) by Josephus. This story is also recorded in Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History. The very same story is in Acts chapter 12 of the Bible.

Persecuting Christians and playing god are dangerous games to play. There is a true brotherhood in the body of Jesus Christ (the true church). I suggest you give up your "divinity" and see yourself for the sinner you are--just like all the rest of mankind; and accept Almighty God's offer of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Then you can join us in singing the great liberating song "What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus." When Jesus comes to establish his everlasting kingdom we can all sing together the song of the lamb. Revelation chapter 5, versus 9 & 10.

In closing, since you do not know me personally, and know nothing about our ministry, I suggest you open your dictionary again and look up the word "prejudice."
